Perchards was founded in 1987 as a specialist public affairs consultancy to monitor and assess legislative developments at national and EU level and to help private-sector clients adopt politically aware corporate policies.
People within the company have been involved with packaging waste management policy ever since the European Commission started taking an interest in the environmental impact of packaging in 1974, and the consultancy has become well known for its work in the field of packaging and packaging waste.
Since the late 1990s, the company has expanded its interest in recycling and waste management to cover electrical and electronic products and batteries as the EU has developed "producer responsibility" policies for these sectors. Perchards are expert both in EU policies and policymaking procedures and in national policies across the 27 member states of the European Union and in all countries of the European Economic Area.
The political process is complex, with constant interaction between local, national and European Union policymaking. The earlier a business gets to grips with proposals and makes its case, the more likely it is that the eventual outcome will be satisfactory.
